Santa Monica: Police seek witnesses to fatal collision that killed 20-Year-Old bicyclist

Police Monday asked anyone who may have witnessed a weekend collision that killed a bicyclist in Santa Monica to contact traffic investigators.

Man Dies At The Scene in Santa Monica

The man, in his 20s, died at the scene of the collision, which occurred about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the coroner’s office and Santa Monica police. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

The motorist initially left the scene, but returned and was questioned, said Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez.

Car Strikes Bicyclist From The Rear

“A preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was riding his bicycle northbound along PCH,” Rodriguez said. “The involved vehicle was traveling northbound along PCH and struck the bicyclist from the rear. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and there have been no preliminary indications the driver was impaired.”

Police shut down all northbound lanes of PCH from Lincoln to Chautauqua boulevards during the investigation.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call traffic investigators at (310) 458-8954.
