Authorities Monday identified a 17-year-old teen girl who was found dead in a culvert in the San Gabriel Mountains in Azusa, triggering a homicide investigation.
The body of Johanna Mejia Gayton was found about 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Mile Marker 1.24 of East Fork Road.
An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of the Sylmar teen’s death, according to the coroner’s office.
Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Sheriff‘s Information Bureau said earlier that the victim “was discovered by a local resident who was on a walk and made the grisly discovery. She appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma.”
Anyone with information on the case was asked to contact homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
