Former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy will speak to a sold-out crowd in Indian Wells Thursday evening as part of the Desert Town Hall speaker series.
Kennedy, the daughter of John F. Kennedy, will share experiences from her ambassador post, which she held from 2013 to 2017, with a crowd of nearly 2,000 people expected to attend.
The attorney and author will also speak to a crowd of 150 students from local high schools for the Youth Town Hall session, during which she will be presented with a book comprised of poems submitted by Coachella Valley residents.
Kennedy, a poetry enthusiast, recently held a poetry contest for valley residents, and the winner — selected by poet and UC Riverside Palm Desert Professor Jill Alexander Essbaum — will be in the audience to hear her speak Thursday evening.
This year’s series has featured former NSA and CIA head Michael Hayden, former MI6 head Sir John Scarlett, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and retired astronaut Mark Kelly. One more lecture remains — on March 28 with “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.
