The U.S. Coast Guard Wednesday suspended its ocean search for a missing swimmer near the Huntington Beach Pier.

Teen’s Belongings Found

Jessy Cook, 18, was last seen about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday on or near the pier, and a multi-agency search was initiated, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. Some of the teen’s belongings reportedly were found on the pier.

The search was suspended about 10:30 a.m., the agency reported.

Searched 137 Square Nautical Miles

“The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for approximately 11 hours covering nearly 137 square nautical miles,” a Coast Guard statement said.

The search, using boats and at least one helicopter, included Huntington Beach lifeguards and personnel from the Huntington Beach Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
