Mimi Tamrat brings over 30 years of top, diversified early childhood experience to her role as Director of Early Childhood Education at Stratford’s new West Los Angeles Preschool and Kindergarten campus located at 2000 Stoner Avenue, sight of the former New Roads Elementary School.
According to Mimi, children need to be in a nurturing and loving environment that allows them to be who they are and to pursue their unique passions and interests. She also knows that to succeed, children should be given permission to explore, take risks, and fail forward. Mimi answered some questions for LAWestMedia.com about the new West Los Angeles Stratford campus:
With all the competition between private schools on the westside, what makes Stratford West Los Angeles different?
At Stratford School, we believe high expectations lead to the extraordinary. We begin early, applying our advanced and intentionally balanced curriculum in a way that inspires and nurtures the minds and hearts of every student.
Our ever-evolving curriculum infuses science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics—or STEAM—to help students develop the diverse set of problem-solving skills and talents they’ll need. Our experienced teachers foster a physically and emotionally secure environment where children feel safe and eager to try new things without the fear of failing.
Stratford’s carefully designed approach challenges students, accelerates their achievement and prepares them to become tomorrow’s creative problem-solvers, innovators and confident leaders.
What is Stratford’s Admissions Process?
Stratford offers ongoing enrollment throughout the school year. Children are welcome to join as long as space is available in the desired program and they are grade-level-ready. To begin preschool, children need to be two and a half years old and potty trained. Admittance to Stratford School is on a first-come, first-served basis!
Stratford School does not require family interviews, recommendation letters or pre-enrollment play dates. Each school tour is personalized and may be scheduled at the parents’ convenience—children are welcome to join parents for the tour!
What is Stratford’s tuition?
Stratford’s school year tuition is all-inclusive, meaning there is no fundraising for school support or required parent volunteer hours. We also offer a sibling discount as well as optional before- and after-school extended day until 6 p.m.
Tuition varies by program. Parents may choose between half-day morning and afternoon programs, or full-day programs offered two, three or five days per week. Visit here to learn more about Stratford’s tuition and admissions process.
Do you offer scholarships?
What qualities do you look for in students?
The only requirement to enter preschool is a minimum age of two and a half years old and the child needs to be potty trained. It is as simple as that.
What do you think parents should care most about when looking for a preschool for their child?
Preschool is an amazing time for a young child, full of rich learning experiences, meeting new friends and socialization. An ideal preschool will provide your child with a world of new learning opportunities intended to connect them to their unique interests and abilities.
