Directors of episodes of “Stranger Things,” “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Game of Thrones” were nominated Wednesday for the Directors Guild of America Award for drama series, while comedy nods went to directors of “Master of None,” “Silicon Valley,” “Veep” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

“Game Of Thrones” Directors Take Three Nominations

“Game of Thrones” directors — Jeremy Podeswa, Matt Shakman and Alan Taylor — earned three of the five spots in the drama series category, while “Master of None” directors — Aziz Ansari and Melina Matsoukas — took two of the nominations in the comedy category.

TV Movie/Miniseries Category

Barry Levinson earned a DGA nod in the TV movie/miniseries category for helming HBO’s “The Wizard of Lies.” He will face off with Scott Frank for Netflix’s “Godless,” Kyra Sedgwick for Lifetime’s “Story of a Girl,” Jeanmarc Vallee for HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and George C. Wolfe for HBO’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.”

Documentary Film Nominations

Documentary film nominations went to Ken Burns and Lynn Novick for “The Vietnam War,” Bryan Fogel for “Icarus,” Matthew Heineman for “City of Ghosts,” Steve James for “Abacus: Small Enough to Jail” and Errol Morris for “Wormwood.”

Awards Presented Feb. 3

The guild will announce its feature film nominations on Thursday. The DGA Awards will be presented Feb. 3 at the Beverly Hilton.
