A man who was severely burned in a pre-dawn blaze at a Culver City motel has died from his injuries, officials said Thursday.
The blaze, reported around 3 a.m. Wednesday, heavily damaged the Astro Motel at 3850 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City Fire Department Battalion Chief Rob Kohlhepp said.
The fire began in one unit and the man occupying that room suffered severe burns before he managed to flee the room to alert the motel staff, Kohlhepp said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, Kohlhepp said.
He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead Wednesday night at County-USC Medical Center, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Dave Rindels.
Eighteen firefighters responded to the blaze and knocked down the fire in about 20 minutes.
The cause was under investigation.
