A pedestrian was killed Saturday in a hit-and-run crash in the unincorporated Firestone Park community and a suspect was arrested nearby, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. in the area of Firestone Boulevard and Holmes Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer M. Rasmussen said.
The victim, James Haley of Los Angeles, was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center in Lynwood where he was pronounced dead at 2:46 a.m., Rasmussen said.
The 2017 Dodge Charger believed involved in the crash was found near 87th and Bandera streets with damage to the windshield and hood and physical evidence that it had struck a pedestrian, the officer said.
The CHP continued to search the area and located Julio Santamaria, 55, of Los Angeles walking on the sidewalk near 87th Street and Fir Avenue, Rasmussen said.
Officers determined Santamaria had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, Rasmussen said. He was medically cleared and taken to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Inmate Reception Center for booking.
The crash was still under investigation.
