la.eater.com reports: Eighteen Southern California restaurants will raise money for the Turpin siblings. The Turpin’s are the seven adult children and six minors that were rescued from their family home in mid-January, after authorities described the siblings as tortured, beaten, abused, and shackled to their beds.
The Daily Bulletin first reported about the fundraiser, where diners can eat at one of the participating restaurants on Wednesday, January 31. Each business will donate between 15 to 20 percent of their sales to a fund setup for the recovering family members.
According to fundraiser organizer and CEO of the Corona Chamber of Commerce Bobby Spiegel, the participating restaurants operate in or near Perris, a sleepy enclave in Riverside County, California. This is the same neighborhood where the Turpin family lived, and adjacent to the facilities where the Turpin siblings are recuperating.
