Authorities Friday identified two people killed in a fiery two-car crash in Inglewood that left a third person badly injured.
The crash occurred about 9:25 a.m. Thursday at 108th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard. Catalina Garcia, 25, of Hawthorne, and Ismael Zepeda Jr., 27, of Inglewood died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. Garcia was driving one of the cars, and Zepeda was her passenger, Winter said.
The driver of the other car suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital.
Both vehicles caught fire in the crash, which occurred across the street from a county fire station, said county fire Capt. Brian Jordan.
“A firefighter in the fire station … heard the collision, went out to help (and) found two vehicles well-involved with flames,” county fire Capt. Brian Jordan told ABC7.
The firefighter and passersby pulled two people from one of the cars, Jordan said.
“Citizens and firefighters performed CPR on one person … (but) the other person was dead at the scene,” he said. The person who received CPR also died, Jordan said.
The occupant of the other car suffered injuries that included “a severely broken leg,” Jordan said.
Reports from the scene indicated that both vehicles may have been traveling at high speed at the time of impact, with the cars ending up about 200 feet apart.
The crash was being investigated by the Inglewood Police Department.
