Police have arrested a 61-year-old woman suspected of killing a 72-year-old woman in a hit-and-run crash in Glendale last week.

Mira Gjura of Glendale was arrested Friday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, police said. Gjura was booked into the Glendale city jail and has since posted bail, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Dan Suttles.

“The suspect vehicle was recovered and is currently being processed by forensic specialists at Glendale’s Verdugo Regional Crime Lab,” Suttles said.

Gjura’s arraignment was set for May 19, 2019, in Glendale Superior Court.

Police released video footage Wednesday of a “person of interest” in the crash.

The surveillance footage, which depicts a woman purchasing items at Castle Liquor on the corner of Allen Avenue and San Fernando Road, comes on the heels of the release of security footage of the vehicle believed to have struck down and killed 72-year-old Novar Ismailyan of Glendale on Dec. 21.

The footage of the car came from a security camera located at a business on Allen Avenue, a street off Glenoaks Boulevard, Suttles said. That footage shows a woman getting out of her vehicle and apparently checking it for damage, he said.

“Witnesses saw the woman and have given the police detectives a description of her, as well as the vehicle,” he said.

The woman was described as being in her late 50s to early 70s, driving a black Toyota Prius.

Officers responded at 7:20 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Linden Avenue and located Ismailyan, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Suttles said. He described the area where she was killed as a “very dark” portion of Glenoaks Boulevard.

The city of Glendale had offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the motorist responsible for the death.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4911. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
