(ALSO SEPT. 16) Triple Feature: 25th Anniversary! SLEEPWALKERS, 1992, Sony Repertory, 91 min. Dir. Mick Garris.

The titular creatures in this chiller feed on the lifeforce of female virgins, so when new kid in town Charles Brady (Brian Krause) takes an interest in classmate Tanya (Mädchen Amick), it’s not just because she has a pretty face. The sleepwalkers (Charles’ mom, played by Alice Krige, is also one of the supernatural beings) have telekinetic and shape-shifting powers, making them a formidable threat – but they have one weakness. In addition to penning the screenplay, Stephen King makes a cameo appearance, along with such other horror heavyweights as Clive Barker, Joe Dante and John Landis.

SILVER BULLET, 1985, Paramount, 95 min. Dir. Daniel Attias.

In this adaptation of Stephen King’s CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF, Corey Haim plays a young man in a wheelchair convinced that there’s a werewolf stalking the citizens of his town. Enlisting the aid of his alcoholic uncle (Gary Busey) and older sister (Megan Follows), Haim takes on the beast. Print courtesy of the Phil Blankenship Collection at the Academy Film Archive.

THINNER, 1996, Paramount, 93 min. Dir. Tom Holland.

In this creepy adaptation of the Stephen King novel, obese lawyer Billy Halleck (Robert John Burke) gets off scot-free after running over and killing a gypsy woman, whose father (Michael Constantine) then puts a curse on him. When Halleck begins to lose weight uncontrollably, he asks a mob-boss client (Joe Mantegna, thoroughly menacing) to persuade the gypsy patriarch to lift the curse. For his work helping the central character shed the pounds, make-up artist Greg Cannom earned a well-deserved Saturn nomination.
