Father of fugitive ex-LAPD officer arrested

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The father of a former Los Angeles Police Department officer wanted for the fatal shooting of a man in Pomona was arrested for allegedly helping his son flee, federal authorities said today.

Victor Solis is accused of driving his son — now-fired Officer Henry Solis, 27 — to Texas and dropping him off at a bus station. Henry Solis is wanted in connection with the March 13 shooting death of Salome Rodriguez Jr., 23.

Victor Solis is expected to make an initial court appearance this afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, according to the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to an affidavit filed last week in support of a federal arrest warrant, investigators searching for Henry Solis learned from family members, friends and witnesses that after the shooting, “Solis made incriminating statements about his role in the murder of Rodriguez and stated that he would never be seen again.”

Solis then called his father in Lancaster, and soon after, “Victor Solis left home in a hurry,” the affidavit states.

Victor Solis, his pickup truck and dog were seen in El Paso the next day at the home of family members, according to the federal document.

He was interviewed by El Paso FBI agents and admitted he drove his son to El Paso on the day of the shooting and dropped him off at a bus station, but denied he knows his son’s whereabouts, according to the affidavit.

Police said Henry Solis got into a fight with Rodriguez at a Pomona bar, leading to the 3:30 a.m. shooting near Third and Main streets.
