Long Beach Police and a SWAT team search for armed suspects

A Long Beach SWAT team was dispatched today to help search for a suspect who allegedly brandished a gun before fleeing from authorities.

Officers were flagged down in the area of Wardlow Road and Santa Fe
Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. regarding an assault investigation, said Long Beach
police Sgt. James Richardson.

A victim told police that a male passenger in a vehicle had pointed a
gun at him, Richardson said.

Police later located the suspect’s vehicle near 20th Street and Atlantic
Avenue and followed it to the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Long
Beach Boulevard, where a passenger exited the car and walked into a local car
wash, Richardson said.

The driver was detained without incident and later arrested on suspicion
of assault with a deadly weapon, driving on a suspended license, possession
of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding arrest warrant, Richardson said.

Police set up a perimeter and SWAT was dispatched to search for the
second suspect, but he was not located, Richardson said.

A description of the second suspect was not immediately available.

Service to and from the Pacific Coast Highway Metro Blue Line Station
was disrupted for more than two hours due to police activity.
